STEM Research and Partnerships (STEM-RP) is an an umbrella organization for our state-wide STEM Outreach and Research efforts. STEM-RP has lead efforts to build, coordinate, research and evaluate K-20 STEM Education across the state of New Mexico and regionally. Working across the university with mathematicians, scientists, educational researchers, and public school and community leaders, faculty and staff in the College of Education have built an strong organization that includes a broad range of research and outreach grants.

Founded in 2006 by Dr. Karin Wiburg, Dr. Susan Brown, and Dr. Prentice Baptiste, the institute has led a long-term leadership effort to build and coordinate K-20 STEM Education efforts at NMSU and across the state of New Mexico. STEM-RP has evolved to include all areas of STEM and work related to the common core standards with a focus on serving diverse students, including English Language Learners.

Dr. Susan Brown, Director of the STEM Outreach Center, directs, coordinates and is the PI for many of the science and technology projects.

STEM-RP fulfills NMSU’s land grant mission by serving over 20 partner districts and their schools from Raton to Hobbs to Gadsden. Around 40,000 students and their families as well as over 1000 teachers benefited from the numerous outreach programs available in the NMSU College of Education.

Dr. Karen Trujillo has recently joined the governing board as a managing director. She will coordinate the various projects within STEM-RP to facilitate a greater integration of the projects. Dr. Karin Wiburg will continue working with the governing group to facilitate research and publications.

Wanda Bulger-Tamez directs the math education projects, and is Wanda Bulgar-Tamez is the PI for the MC2 grants.
